Is the AAMI Skilled Driver course free?
The Skilled Drivers course is free if you, your parents or grandparents have an AAMI comprehensive car insurance policy. Once you complete the AAMI Skilled Drivers Course, you’ll get a 10% discount off your premium when you take out comprehensive car insurance policy with AAMI. As long as you’re under the age of 25.
Does AAMI run a driving school?
No. The Skilled Drivers Course is for young driver's who already hold a drivers licence, not a learners permit.
Is the course safe?
Safety is our first priority. All courses are conducted in a controlled environment, under strict supervision and by experienced trainers. A trainer is in the car during all practical exercises.
Will a car be supplied for me to use on the day?
No. You will need to bring a car that is in a safe condition and road worthy. We recommend you use your own car or the car you normally drive.
How long does the AAMI Skilled Drivers Course take?
The course starts at 9:30am and finishes between 3:30pm and 4pm.
Who delivers the course?
The course is conducted by AAMI Skilled Driver trainers who are fully qualified and have a Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment.
Does the course get cancelled if it rains?
No. Rain, hail or shine, the AAMI Skilled Drivers Course will go ahead.
How do I get the discount on my premium once I complete the Skilled Drivers Course?
You’ll be entitled to a 10% discount on AAMI comprehensive car insurance until you reach 25. In the first year, the full 10% discount will be refunded if the course is completed in the first six months of the policy. You don’t need to do anything, we’ll automatically send you a cheque in the mail.
A pro-rata amount will apply if the course is completed in the second half of a yearly policy so you’ll be refunded for the number of months you have left before you receive your next renewal.
Can I attend the course if I, my parents or grandparents don’t have comprehensive insurance with AAMI?
Yes, but you will need to pay a $190.00 (including GST) course fee.
